Citi Strata Premier vs. Capital One Venture X: Which Travel Card Wins?
A $95 everyday-earning travel card against a $395 lounge-and-credit travel card. They’re not really built for the same trip.
The Strata Premier is a low-fee, high-earning everyday card — 3x on a wide range of categories including gas and groceries, for just $95/year. The Venture X is a premium card whose $395 fee is largely offset by its own $300 annual travel credit and 10,000-point anniversary bonus, plus primary-cardholder lounge access — but note Capital One ended free guest lounge access on Venture X as of February 1, 2026.

Why people pick Strata Premier
At $95/year, the Strata Premier is built to be a strong daily driver rather than a travel-perks card: 3x points on gas, EV charging, restaurants, supermarkets, and travel is a genuinely broad everyday-earning rate for a card this cheap, and the $100 annual hotel credit alone covers most of the fee. It has no lounge access and a much thinner benefits stack, but it also doesn’t ask you to spend $395 to find out if you’ll use them.
Why people pick Venture X
The Venture X’s $395 fee is mostly a wash on paper — the $300 recurring travel credit plus the 10,000-mile anniversary bonus (worth about $100 at Capital One’s standard 1 cent/mile redemption) bring the effective cost down to roughly $0–$95 for anyone who travels enough to use the credit. Lounge access for the primary cardholder is still free, but as of February 1, 2026, guests and authorized users no longer get free lounge entry — guests now pay $45/visit at Capital One Lounges or $35 at Priority Pass, and authorized users can buy a $125/year access pass. That changes the math if you were counting on bringing people along for free.
Bottom line
- You want strong everyday earning without a big annual fee
- You don’t travel enough to use lounge access anyway
- You want a simple card with one clear recurring credit
- You travel enough to use the $300 credit and the anniversary bonus every year
- You mostly fly alone or don’t mind guests paying for lounge access now
- You want Capital One Travel-specific bonus categories
